General Race Day Info

So, my whole family do the Pink Triathlon fun run, which was 5km.  I was expecting to do okay, to beat four out of the five members of my family, with me losing to my brother Robert, who is 18, male (what with being my brother), and a fitness fanatic.

But...

I BEAT HIM.  I BEAT THEM ALL!

That's right, I beat ALL of them.  I did really well, though I didn't reach my time goal.  That said, my time goal was probably unrealistic (and I knew it, so wasn't devestated).

So, some stats.

I came in 45th in total, with a time of 27:50, giving me a race pace of 5:34/km.  I came in at the 28th female, and 6th in my category (female and 25-29 years).  Which is really good, given it was my first ever race.

John-Wayne came in at 161, Julie at 162, Mum at 174 and Dad at 175.

Robert was 71st total, time of 30:10.

John-Wayne (aka Sugar-Boy), as predicted by all, ran the first km, then walked so slowly the rest that Julie (who walked the whole thing) caught up with him.  He then sprinted at the finish so he could beat her, because he had promised to cut off his legs if either Julie or Mum beat him.  "They'd obviously be useless to me," he explained.

So, that's right.  I WON!

Yes, I am slightly competative.  BUT I WON!

My next event in in Geelong, and is a 10km.

Photos to come when my mum works out how to email them from her phone (i.e. probably never).

Les Mis

A friend of mine went to see Les Mis on the recommendation of a parent.

"So, what did you think of it," I asked her.

"Well, I watched it, and I thought, why are they always singing?"

Which called for me to sing sections of Les Mis whenever I entered the room.

JW's Training Plans

So, you all know that my family are running the Pink Triathlon portion with me.  I'm expecting to beat all of them except Robert (my 18 year old brother, who is massively fit).

John-Wayne, my 21 year old brother, is DEFINITELY not going to beat me.  After all, he's in serious training.

"You know what I'm gonna do?  I'm gonna eat nothing but sugar for the whole week before the race, and then I'll SPRINT the whole thing, going argharhargh the WHOLE WAY."

As Robert said, "You do that John-Wayne, you do that."

Sam's Race

As most of you will realise, I'm attempting to run at the moment.  Attempting is probably the right word - I'm not very fast.  If I had to run away from a bear or something, I'd be dead.  On the bright side, apparently, the best thing to do with bears is to play dead.  I can do that.

Anyway, the plan is for all this to culminate n me doing the Tough Mudder.  And because while I'm crazy enough to attempt such a thing, I'm NOT crazy enough to do it without any form of training or other racing, I'm doing some shorter races first.

The first one that I'm doing is the running portion of the Melbourne Triathlon Pink - the 5km version.

It's on the 27th of January, and I'd love it if a few people could come and support me.  You can enter yourself (my whole family have signed up for the 5km version) or you can come and visit me at the finish at Albert Park!

Do text or email me to let me know that you're coming so that I don't miss you.

I'm expecting to run the event in a little less than 30 minutes, but am hoping for below 25 minutes.

I Don't Think It'll Be A Problem

So, I was playing with the (gluten free) play-dough with Gabby.  We were making biscuits.

"Here Sam.  You can have some, as a treat."

"Wow, thanks Gabby.  They look delicious!"

"Well, you can eat them.  Just don't tell your husband or your daughter about them."

Aarushi came up to me, and handed me one of the dolls.  "Here!  Here's your baby Sam!"

"Oh good," I said.  "I've been wanting a baby."

Aarushi looked at me very seriously, and said, "Now, don't throw your baby on the road Sam."

"Right..."

Sam Is Crazy

I got a bike for Christmas!  Well, sort of.  I got it after Christmas, from my family, for typing up book titles for Mum.

So I rode home from my mum's (5km), and crashed into a fire hydrant, taking off the edge of ne of the pedals.  Then I crashed into a fence.

So the next day I attempted to ride my bike to work.  It's only 8.5km.  I got 1km, then the pedal (not the one I crashed before) came off.  I pushed it home, then caught the bus.  My brother fixed the bike that evening.

The next day, I rode to work.  Let me just say, Burke road has a lot of hills between my house and Kew.  And that bike riding on a day when the temperature is 38 degrees is a bit of work.

You see, I haven't ridden a bike - a real bike - since I was 8 years old.  I still expect to be able to break by pedalling backwards.  And you have to balance (what's with THAT?), which you so don't have to do in a spin class.

In other news, on Sunday night I had an episode of "Sam is a terrible individual" thinking.  Convinced I am the worst person in the whole, entire world, along with being mean, horrible, not at all intelligent and more than averagely bad-looking.  Until about 3:30 in the morning.

Yeah, that sucked.  I'm still not convinced that this isn't the case, but at least now I'm not crying about it.

And no, I have no idea what happened.  There is no known reason for said episode.  I have not done anything mean or horrible, I have not become uglier, and I assume my intelligence level has remained more or less the same.

On the bright side, when I woke up, I ran my usual 4.25km run in my best time ever - 22.44mins.  So I guess even mild hysterics over my complete failure of myself as a decent human being has its upsides - faster running.

And now, as a result of personal training and a ABT class done right afterwards, my muscles are sore.  Two days later.  Whatever.  I'm still going boxing tonight.
